Love Your Liver

Hello World! This is my first blog post, how exciting! I will be doing weekly blog posts on here with fun new tips, tricks, and recipes to add into your life. This will be a combination of the things I love: God, family, real good food, exercise, essential oils, and natural clean living- to feed your body, mind, and spirit.
Spring is here! What a great time to open your windows and enjoy the fresh air. Spring is great for restoration and renewal. According to Chinese Medicine, Spring is connected to the liver and the gallbladder. Speaking of the liver, here is my first liver lovin’ recipe! If you like beets, you will fall in love with this recipe, and so will your liver!
If you don’t know, but soon will, I love learning new things. So the other day, I was listening to a Hormone Summit and the speaker gave a recipe that included beets. Knowing that beets are natural detoxifiers of the liver, I was excited to try this recipe. Loving to experiment with new things, I made my first Beet Kvass. This drink is loaded with minerals and phytonutrients. Beets are an antioxidant as well as an inflammatory. They are rich in folate, B vitamin, which is important for a healthy heart and cellular metabolism. The informal recipe that I am going to provide is very simple, but feel free to browse the internet for more details. I played with the recipe as I was not given specifics when it came to the amounts of lemon and lime, so here is your time to play as well.
What You Need
- Half a gallon glass jar
- filtered water
- 2 organic beets
- about 1 inch of ginger, grated
- 2 slices of orange
- 1/2 lime
- 1/2 lemon
- cabbage (optional)
- 1 pinch of allspice
- 2 tablespoons of salt (helps control pathogens)
- cheese cloth
Make it Like So
- Clean all produce (not necessary to peel the beets if organic)
- Chop beets into 1/2 inch-1 inch cubes
- Place beets, grated ginger, orange, lemon and lime (squeeze the juice), salt, and allspice into the glass container.
- Add water leaving approximately 1 inch
- Place a cheese cloth over the jar
- Place the jar on your kitchen counter, away from direct sunlight and wait for the miracle to happen
After 2 days, your drink should be ready (mine was). Your tastebuds are your deciding factor. Strain the liquid and place into the fridge over night. You can drink it straight up as a daily tonic, or cook with it like vinegar. It is also great in salad dressings.
Great job on your first blog post, Linda. I could hear you talking to me. And, my liver could hear you talking to it too! Can’t wait to read more posts. xo
